2010 Post Season Honors

Division I -

Goalie of the Year - Logan Ripley, North Carolina
Ripley anchored one of the stingiest defenses in the nation this season, helping the Tar Heels to a No. 1 ranking during the season and a berth in the NCAA semifinals. She ranked in the top-three nationally in save percentage while facing one of the top-three toughest schedules.

Defender of the Year - Nikki Branchini, Albany
Branchini helped the Great Danes to the America East regular season crown and a spot in the polls in 2010, helping UAlbany rank in the top-10 in scoring defense nationally. She ranked in the top-10 nationally in caused turnovers, ground balls, and draw controls.

Midfielder of the Year - Caitlyn McFadden, Maryland
The two-time ACC Player of the Year had the Terps atop the polls in 2010, a spot in the NCAA final, and another ACC championship. McFadden helped the Terrapins rank first in scoring defense and third in scoring margin while leading her team in caused turnovers and ranking second in draw controls.

Attacker of the Year -  Katrina Dowd, Northwestern
The ALC Player of the Year led her Wildcats to a sixth consecutive berth in NCAA championship game, setting the career record for goals scored in the tournament in the process. She led the nation in points per game and ranked nationally in caused turnovers and draw controls.

Rookie of the Year - Ashley Bruns, Florida
Bruns helped the Gators burst onto the lacrosse season in 2010, putting them in the top-20 by the end of their inaugural season while ranking in the top-15 nationally in points per game. The ALC Rookie of the Year, Bruns led all rookies nationally in scoring.

Unsung Hero of the Year - Eileen Finn, Syracuse
Finn helped steady the Syracuse defense after losing defender after defender to injury. She had a breakout year, helping the Orange rank in the top-10 nationally in scoring defense while marking a career high in caused turnovers and ground balls.

Coach of the Year - Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe, James Madison
The Dukes moved quickly into the top-10 nationally, winning the CAA regular season crown and the tournament championship. After a 5-11 record in 2009, James Madison put together a 17-3 record that included a berth in the NCAA quarterfinals while ranking third in scoring defense and sixth in scoring margin.

Division II -

Goalie of the Year - Caitlin Fitzgerald, Adelphi

Fitzgerald's work in the cage was a big reason the Panthers won the 2010 title, repeating as national champions. She ranked second in the nation in both save percentage and goals-against average while earning a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament team.

Defender of the Year - Katie Zichelli, Lock Haven

Zichelli was again a steady and powerful presence in the backfield for the Haven, leading the nation in caused turnovers and ground balls. The Lady Eagles ranked in the top-five nationally in scoring defense thanks to Zichelli, who helped them repeat as PSAC champions.

Midfielder of the Year - Kim Williams, C. W. Post

Williams was a dominant force in the midfield for the Pioneers, helping them reach the top ranking in the nation while earning the top seed in the North Region in the playoffs. The ECC Player of the Year, Williams ranked in the top-15 nationally in both caused turnovers and ground balls.

Attacker of the Year - Claire Petersen, Adelphi

Petersen's assault on the record books was a big part of the Panther success in 2010. She set the all-time record for assists in a season in the title game win over West Chester and cruised to a spot in the top-five all-time scoring seasons in lacrosse history.

Rookie of the Year - Demmianne Cook, Adelphi

Cook was an instant positive to the Adelphi lineup in 2010, helping them win the national championship with an impressive rookie season. Her speed and tenacity made her a big part of the transition and in scoring goals.

Unsung Hero of the Year - Colleen Strachan, Merrimack

Strachan was a key part of the rise of the Warriers in 2010, starting all 15 games and ranking among the team leaders in scoring, draw controls, and caused turnovers.

Coach of the Year - Corinne Baker, Merrimack

Baker guided the Warriors to a top-10 season, posting a 12-3 record in 2010, including a 9-2 record in the NE-10, after posting an 8-8 record in 2009. Merrimack ranked in the top-five in offense and seventh nationlly in scoring margin while ranking second in caused turnovers.

Division III -

Goalie of the Year - Cat Ruggiero, Union
Ruggiero ranked second in the nation in save percentage and fifth in goals-against average, despite facing the fifth-toughest schedule in the nation. She came up huge in big games, posting double-digit save totals in six games against ranked opponents.

Defender of the Year - Sarah McKinley, Salisbury
McKinley anchored the Sea Gulls to the NCAA title, helping Salisbury shut down some of the toughest scoring threats in the nation. The Sea Gulls ranked in the top-10 nationally in scoring defense while facing 15 top-20 teams during the course of the season. 

Midfielder of the Year - Sarah Bray, Hamilton
Bray helped the Continentals to an undefeated regular season and a berth in the NCAA title game, leading the team in scoring, ground balls and caused turnovers. The Continentals led the nation in scoring defense, allowing less than six goals a game, while ranking in the top-25 in scoring. 

Attacker of the Year - Alison Jaeger, TCNJ
Jaeger was one of the top threats in the nation in 2010, ranking in the top-25 nationally in points per game and draw controls per game. She averaged almost six points a game, including over three points a game while facing six top-10 teams.

Rookie of the Year - Maria DiFato, Cortland
DiFato was an instant impact player for the Red Dragons in 2010, starting every game and leading the team in caused turnovers and ground balls while ranking fourth in scoring. She ranked second in the nation in caused turnovers and led Cortland to the SUNYAC title and a berth in the NCAA second round.

Unsung Hero of the Year - Allie Wheatley, Salisbury
Wheatley was a key part of the Sea Gulls' run to the title in 2010, ranking fourth on the team in goals and second in draw controls. She ranked second among the top-10 scorers at SU in shooting percentage and third in ground balls and fourth in caused turnovers.

Coach of the Year - Linda Michele, Brockport
The first-year coach at Brockport helped the Golden Eagles to their first NCAA berth and a top-20 ranking, engineering a huge turnaround from the 2009 campaign. Michele, in her first year as a collegiate head coach, had Brockport in the top-15 in scoring defense and the top-12 in scoring margin.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

May 10, 2010

DIVISION I -

Defensive Player of the Week: Rachel Klein, Boston University

Klein led the Terriers back to the America East title and the berth in the NCAA tournament, making 20 saves while allowing only 16 goals. Her performance in the first half of the title game kept the Terriers close, setting the stage for the win.


Offensive Player of the Week: Mary Kate Lomady, James Madison

Lomady was a part of six goals this weekend as the Duke reclaimed the CAA title with a pair of victories. She added a couple ground balls and a caused turnover as JMU returned to the NCAA tournament.


Rookie of the Week: Jennifer VanderMeulen, Harvard

VanderMeulen closed the door on her inaugural season with a five-goal, two-caused turnover performance in the upset of Boston College. The Ivy League Rookie of the Year made a statement in her final game of the season.

Defensive Player of the Week: Rebecca Moore, Stonehill

Moore helped the Skyhawks advance to the conference final and take the game into overtime, making key saves in regulation to send the game to the extra session. On the weekend, she had 38 saves while allowing only 22 goals.

Offensive Player of the Week: Claire Petersen, Adelphi

Petersen exploded for 19 points in the Panthers' two games this weekend, powering Adelphi to the conference title. In the championships game against Stonehill, she assisted on seven goals while scoring twice herself.


Rookie of the Week: Rebecca Moore, Stonehill

Moore helped the Skyhawks advance to the conference final and take the game into overtime, making key saves in regulation to send the game to the extra session. On the weekend, she had 38 saves while allowing only 22 goals.

Defensive Player of the Week: Julia Schreiber, Williams

Schreiber made 26 saves while allowing only 14 goals in the semifinals and finals of the NESCAC tournament, giving the Ephs the title and the berth in the NCAA tournament. She shut out the reigning champion Colby White Mules in the final half of the title game, making 12 saves in that period.

Offensive Player of the Week: Jessica Knight, Southern Maine

Knight  went on a tear this week,  notching 18 goals in a three-game span to help the Huskies upset three teams en route to the LEC title and the berth in the NCAA tournament. In the title game against Eastern Connecticut, Knight not only scored seven goals but also snared five draw controls and added two caused turnovers.


Rookie of the Week: Rachel Friedman, Hamilton

Friedman helped the top-ranked Continentals to the Liberty League title, beating Union in the title game. The rookie tallied eight goals, one assist, six ground balls and four draw controls in the two victories on the week.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DIVISION I -

Defensive Player of the Week: Caitlin Formby, Georgetown

Formby backstopped the Hoyas to a pair of wins over ranked teams that gave Georgetown the top seed in the Big East tournament. She had 14 saves in the win on the road at Syracuse that came just days after an overtime win over Loyola in which the senior made a save in the overtime period. She added two caused turnovers and three ground balls in the two games.


Offensive Player of the Week: Erin Rawlick, Navy

Rawlick led the Mids to the Patriot League title and the accompanying berth in an NCAA Play-in game with her MVP performance. She led Navy in the second-half comeback of the title game, notching four points in the second half, including an assist on the game-winning goal. The senior captain had 11 points on the weekend and added 13 draw controls in the two games.


Rookie of the Week: Taylor Thornton, Northwestern

Thornton helped the Wildcats pick up a pair of wins on the weekend, including a come-from-behind victory over Virginia in which she caused three turnovers and had four ground balls. She also had two draw controls, including the opening one in overtime that set the stage for the game-winning goal. Thornton also helped Northwestern hold Florida scoreless in the opening half as the 'Cats went on to victory.

DIVISION II -

Defensive Player of the Week: Kira Nuttall, Lock Haven

Nuttall led the Lady Eagles to their second consecutive PSAC title with a 12-save performance in the title game. The senior had 19 saves and allowed only 10 goals on the weekend while adding two ground balls.

Offensive Player of the Week: Michelle Fucich, C. W. Post

Fucich had an eight-point day in the victory over arch-rival Adelphi, a game that knocked the Panthers from the ranks of the unbeaten and moved the Pioneers up to the the top spot in the polls. Her three goals and five assists came as part of the Pioneers' final 14 goals as Fucich tied the game at the end of the first half and then added seven points in the second half.


Rookie of the Week: Cori Geiger, Bentley

Geiger  continued with her impressive streak as she helped the Falcons secure a home bid in the NE-10 quarterfinals with her performance. She scored four goals and added an assist in the win over Southern New Hampshire; the rookie also controlled four draws and had five ground balls.

Defensive Player of the Week: Lidia Sanza, Franklin & Marshall

Sanza helped the Diplomats to the Centennial title, notching a shut out in the semifinall game before taking down top-seeded Gettysburg in the final in overtime. In the semi against Ursinus, the senior keeper made four saves and picked up two ground balls as she kept the Bears off the scoreboard. In the final, Sanza made two saves in overtime to preserve the win.

Offensive Player of the Week: Melissa Hill, Brockport

Hill led the Golden Eagles to a pair of victories and the SUNYAC semifinals with her performance on the week. She scored nine goals and added an assist in the two games, and contributed eight ground balls, eight caused turnovers, and five draw controls.


Rookie of the Week: Maria DiFato, Cortland

DiFato repeated her honor as she led the Red Dragons to an upset of the Lions, scoring twice while controlling four draws and snaring two ground balls. She caused five turnovers on the day to help Cortland to victory.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

April 26, 2010

DIVISION I -

Defensive Player of the Week: Brittany Dipper, Maryland

Dipper led the Terps back to the ACC winners' circle with an 18-save performance over the weekend that included a career-high 12 saves against UNC in the title game. Dipper and the rest of the Terps held the Heels to a season-low five goals on Sunday.


Offensive Player of the Week: Danielle Spencer, Northwestern

Spencer showed off her talents with an eight-goal, one-assist performance against Vanderbilt that was complemented with six draw controls. 


Rookie of the Week: Cosette Larash, Johns Hopkins

Larash led the Blue Jays to the upset of Penn State, notching 11 saves while allowing only seven goals. She added 10 ground balls and a caused turnover, as well as a rare draw control as a goalkeeper.

Defensive Player of the Week: Chrissy Grogg, Limestone

The MVP of the Conference Carolinas tournament, Grogg led the Saints in the final game with four caused turnovers and five ground balls. She helped the defense allow only 39 total shots in two games as Limestone defeated Pfeiffer and Belmont Abbey.

Offensive Player of the Week: Ally Keirn, Mercyhurst

Keirn helped the Lakers to a pair of key PSAC wins, including one over No. 2 Lock Haven in which she had three goals and two assists. She added four goals and two assists in the win over IUP, giving her a 7+4 week as Hurst went 2-0.


Rookie of the Week: Cori Geiger, Bentley

Geiger repeated as Rookie of the Week with a seven-goal, two-assist week that powered the Falcons to a pair of wins.

Defensive Player of the Week: Jessica Crane, Gettysburg

Crane was a key part of the two wins for the Bullets, including an 8-7 victory over Franklin & Marshall that clinched the Centennial Conference regular season title. She had six caused turnovers and six ground balls on the week as Gettysburg allowed only 32 shots between the two games, including only 13 to F&M. At the other end of the field, Crane added four goals and three assists.

Offensive Player of the Week: Allison Jaeger, TCNJ

Jaeger had an 11-goal week, including a hat trick against Franklin & Marshall and an eight-goal outburst against conference rival Montclair State. She added eight draw controls, notching five in the win over F&M.


Rookie of the Week: Maria DiFato, Cortland

DiFato helped the Red Dragons to a 3-0 week,including an overtime win over Union. She had a seven-goal, five-assist week, scooping up nine ground balls, five draw controls, and causing five turnovers.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

April 19, 2010

DIVISION I -

Defensive Player of the Week: Kelsy Ferris, Lehigh

Ferris backstopped the Mountain Hawks to a pair of victories, including over league-leading Navy and over Albany. She stopped 19 shots while allowing only 17, making key saves. Lehigh did not allow Erin Rawlick, who leads the nation in scoring, a goal. Ferris added five ground balls and a caused turnover in the wins.


Offensive Player of the Week: Laura Zimmerman, North Carolina

Zimmerman was instrumental in UNC's wins over No. 1 North Carolina and No. 5 Duke. She assisted on the game-winner in the rivalry victory over Duke, adding a goal, a ground ball and a draw control. In the upset of Northwestern, she had five goals and added two assists. One of her goals put Carolina ahead for good.


Rookie of the Week: Lauren McDermott, LaSalle
McDermott helped the Explorers to the no. 2 seed in the A-10 tournament, besting city rival Temple and 2009 champion Massachusetts. She had six goals and five draw controls on the week, and added an assist, three ground balls, and a caused turnover.

Defensive Player of the Week: Katie Zichelli, Lock Haven

Zichelli started the week by marshalling a defense that allowed 18 shots in two games. She notched nine caused turnovers and ten ground balls combined in the victories. In the overtime victory against C. W. Post, she caused seven turnovers and picked up five ground balls to help the Lady Eagles to the win.

Offensive Player of the Week: Gina Mansi, Holy Family

The season after going 0-16, Holy Family is in the CACC playoffs thanks to a strong week from Mansi. The sophomore had a hat trick in each of the Tigers' games last week, totalling 15 goals while adding three draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover.


Rookie of the Week: Cori Geiger, Bentley

Geiger was hot for the Falcons this week as she helped Bentley to three wins, scoring 12 goals combined. She added two assists and two draw controls in the win over New Haven.

Defensive Player of the Week: Kate Schmid, Cabrini

Schmid helped the Cavaliers take control of the CSAC race with victories over the two previously undefeated teams in the conference. She tallied 29 saves while allowing only 17 goals, picking up seven ground balls and three caused turnovers in the two wins.

Offensive Player of the Week: Kristin Joyce, Union

Joyce started out the week with seven goals against Middlebury before adding four more in the win over Rochester. She also controlled five draws and picked up three ground balls in the two victories.


Rookie of the Week: Jamie Kelley, Fitchburg State

Kelley helped the Falcons to a pair of victories to keep them in the hunt for a playoff berth. She had one five draw controls and six ground balls in the win over Worcester State as well as a three-goal, four-assist performance in the win over UMass-Dartmouth. She added three ground balls and three draw controls in the win over the Corsairs.

DIVISION I

Defensive Player of the Week:  Jackie Doherty, Notre Dame

Doherty led a Notre Dame defense that went 98:33 withouth allowing a goal that including three wins, including two over ranked teams. Against Loyola, the Irish allowed just six shots in the second half to come from behind to win 11-10. ND then shut out Villanova for the program's first shutout before holding Syracuse to five goals in a 6-5 victory. In the three games, Doherty had 11 ground balls, six draw controls and seven caused turnovers.


Offensive Player of the Week: Katrina Dowd, Northwestern

Dowd played a key role in both of NU's wins on the week over two top-20 teams, scoring four goals in each game. She added seven draw controls and a ground ball as the Wildcats remained undefeated on the season.


Rookie of the Week:  Nicole Lacey, George Washington

Lacey notched the game-winner against La Salle in triple overtime to keep the Colonials in the hunt for an A-10 tournament berth. She controlled 14 draws in the two victories for GW on the weekend, adding two ground balls and four total goals on the week.

Fitzpatrick did not allow a goal in 90 minutes of play, shutting out St. Michael's and keeping Southern Connecticut off the scoreboard in a pair of victories.


Offensive Player of the Week: Claire Grimwood, West Chester

Grimwood helped the Golden Rams to three victories, including two top-10 triumphs that saw her score four goals and add two assists, collect seven ground balls and control six draws. In the come-from-behind win over Gannon, she notched a goal with nine seconds left in regulation to send it to overtime before scoring the game winner in sudden victory.


Rookie of the Week: Emily Cilla, Lock Haven

Cilla helped the Lady Eagles to a 2-0 week, including a come-from-behind victory over Gannon in which she scored two goals, added three assists, and picked up three ground balls and three draw controls. In the win over  Kutztown,  she added three draw controls.

Perez helped key the Jumbos to two ranked wins on the week, starting with an upset of Babson in which she caused four turnovers and scooped up seven ground balls. In the upset of Trinity, Perez caused another turnover and picked up two ground balls while scoring twice.

Offensive Player of the Week: Alison Jaeger, TCNJ

Jaeger scored five goals and added two assists while collecting four draw controls in the upset of Salisbury that catapulted the Lions to the No. 1 ranking in the nation. With the Lions down three, Jaeger scored twice and added both assists in the midst of an 8-0 run over 26 minutes to secure the victory. Earlier in the week she added four goals and two assists along with seven draw controls in the win over Rutgers-Camden.


Rookie of the Week: Tracy Rivas, Ithaca

Rivas helped the Bombers to a perfect 3-0 week, including an upset of Stevens in which she scored five goals. The rookie added a hat trick in the wins over Utica and Hartwick, while collecting a total of three ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers.

DIVISION I

Defensive Player of the Week: Chelsea Wagner, Sacred Heart

Wagner helped backstop the Pioneers to a pair of key NEC wins last week, making 24 saves while allowing only 12 goals. In the come-from-behind win over Monmouth, Wagner made 10 of her 13 saves in the second half to boost Sacred Heart. In the win over the Mount, she made 11 saves, including two in overtime, to help preserve the victory.


Offensive Player of the Week: Caitlyn McFadden, Maryland

McFadden helped the Terrapins win two top-10 games last week, notching four goals and four assists while snaring three draw controls and causing four turnovers. She added three ground balls as Maryland defeated Penn and Towson.


Rookie of the Week: Ashley Bruns, Florida

Bruns was key for the Gators, who notched a key conference and national win over Penn State last week. She scored two goals and had an assist in the first 10 minutes and helped UF jump out to a 4-0 lead against the Nittany Lions. She added three more goals, including the eventual game-winner, and another assist as Florida won 13-11. She also had three goals and three assists in Florida's win over Oregon last Tuesday.

Zichelli earned national honors yet again this season after leading the Lady Eagles to two wins on the week, including a PSAC victory over Mercyhurst in which she caused four turnovers and added seven ground balls. In the win over Slippery Rock, she had three caused turnovers and three ground balls. The Lady Eagles allowed only 19 shots in each game.

Offensive Player of the Week: Erica Devito, Adelphi

Devito powered the Panthers to a pair of wins on the week, notching 16 points on 12 goals and four assists. Eleven of those points came in the conference win over Merrimack (8g, 3a). She added five ground balls, one draw control and three caused turnovers as AU remained undefeated.


Rookie of the Week: Rebecca Moore, Stonehill

Moore kept the honor at Stonehill as she led the Skyhawks to a 2-0 week from inside the cage. She made 29 saves while allowing only 18 goals, including ten saves against Dowling. The rookie added ten ground balls and three caused turnovers.

She made 10 saves in the win over Roanoke and added nine more in the win over Lynchburg. She added a caused turnover in the 9-7 victory over Roanoke and scooped up three ground balls.

Offensive Player of the Week: Rachel Romanowsky, Trinity

Romanowsky notched a hat trick in each of the Bantams' wins this week, both of which came against top-15 teams. She controlled three draws in each game and added four ground balls.


Rookie of the Week: Katie Palasz, New England College

Palasz scored four goals and added an assist in each of NEC's three games this week, helping the Pilgrims to a 2-1 record. She added nine ground balls, five draw controls, and three caused turnovers on the week.

Defensive Player of the Week: Shannie MacKenzie, Dartmouth

MacKenzie was crucial for the Big Green this week as Dartmouth upset Syracuse, holding the Orange to only ten goals, and defeated Yale in a key Ivy League game. MacKenzie was responsible for shutting down offensive threats in both games, including the nation's leading scorer in Tee Ladoucer from Syracuse.

Offensive Player of the Week: Kim Griffin, James Madison

Griffin scored four goals and added an assist as the Dukes upset the Cavaliers last week. After assisting on the game-tying goal late in the game, Griffin won the draw control and scored with 11 seconds on the clock for the victory. In the loss to Maryland, Griffin had two goals and two assists as the Dukes stood toe-to-toe with the Terps before falling late in the game.


Rookie of the Week: Katie Schwarzmann, Maryland

Schwarzmann's third goal of the game against JMU was the game-winner and came in the final three minutes of play as the Terps rallied from down three to post the victory. She added a draw control, a ground ball, and a caused turnover as Maryland won its second straight game against a ranked opponent. Earlier in the week she

Crouse helped the Golden Rams post four wins last week, averaging three caused turnovers per match. West Chester allowed an average of only nine goals per game, and allowed less than 17 shots per game.

Offensive Player of the Week: Lori Solitto, Molloy

Solitto helped the Lions go 3-0 on the week, scoring nine goals and adding five assists. She started the week with a hat trick and two assists in the upset of New Haven, including a goal and an assist in a 4-0 run that gave Molloy the lead for good. Solitto added five goals in the upset of Pfeiffer, notching two of those in a 9-0 run that clinched the game for the Lions. In the final game of the week, Solitto had the game-winner in the final minute.


Rookie of the Week: Heather Sullivan, Stonehill

Sullivan notched a hat trick in both of Stonehill's wins this week, over Merrimack and New Haven. She scored twice in the final 8:33 of the Merrimack game to help complete the comeback victory. The rookie also added a ground ball and a draw control.

Ruggiero had a monster week for the Dutchwomen, recording 33 saves while allowing only 12 goals to two top-20 teams. She had 11 saves in the 17-3 win over Washington & Lee on the road before posting 22 saves in the 9-8 loss to top-ranked Salisbury.

Offensive Player of the Week: Sarah Bray, Hamilton

Bray helped the Continentals go 3-0 on the week, putting up five goals and five assists while adding eight draw controls and six ground balls. She notched a 2+2 game in the win over Cortland while adding a hat trick in the win over Nazareth


Rookie of the Week: Margaret Souther, Middlebury

Souther helped the Panthers go 3-0 on the week, including a mid-week upset of then-#2 Gettysburg in which she had a pair of goals. In the win over Buffalo State, she added a hat trick with an assist to go along with three ground balls and a pair of caused turnoves. The rookie had another hat trick in the NESCAC win over Connecticut College.

Defensive Player of the Week: Ana Heneberry, Loyola

Heneberry helped the Greyhounds allow only 14 goals between two games last week. Loyola held previously undefeated James Madison to eight goals and Rutgers to only six; Heneberry contributed six caused turnovers and four ground balls in the victories.

Offensive Player of the Week: Ally Carey, Vanderbilt

Carey was a key part of the Commodores' two wins on the week, controlling 16 draws in the two games. She also contributed nine goals, three assists, and five caused turnovers. Three of her goals in the win over Penn State were part of a seven-goal, second-half run.


Rookie of the Week: Ashley Bruns, Florida

Bruns notched 19 points in two wins last week, including six goals and nine assists in an upset of New Hampshire. Earlier in the week she had six goals and four assists to go along with three ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers in a win over Marist.

Masterton scored six goals and added two assists as the Lakers won a pair of conference games, including a come-from-behind win over Gannon. She notched two goals and an assist in a 3-0 run that turned an 8-6 deficit into a 9-6 lead that Hurst would not relinquish.

Rookie of the Week: Sam Weinstein, Williams

Weinstein helped rally the Ephs twice last week as Williams defeated RPI and Bates. In the win over RPI, she scored twice in a 5-0 run to bring Williams up from down one. In a 7-5 victory against Bates on Saturday, she scored the first and last goal in a four-goal run that brought Williams from down one to up three and take a lead they would not relinquish. She added two caused turnovers and a ground ball in the victory.

Defensive Player of the Week: Barb Seaman, Penn

Seaman helped the Quakers to a pair of wins, including a one-goal victory over Hofstra in which she had two caused turnovers and two ground balls. The Red and Blue allowed an average of 5.5 goals on the week and only 19 shots per game.

Offensive Player of the Week: Ainsley Baker, Virginia

Baker scored five goals in the upset of North Carolina, including the game-winner in overtime.


Rookie of the Week: Kaitlin Gaiss, Duke

Gaiss stepped into the cage for the first time this season and made eight saves in a win over Georgetown. She scooped up three ground balls and caused a turnover as the Blue Devils won their second consecutive game against a top-10 opponent.

Poist kept the honor in the family this week as she helped the Terps to a dominating win over Virginia. She had four ground balls and four caused turnovers as the Terrapins shut down the Cavaliers in the second half, allowing only three shots and zero goals.

Offensive Player of the Week: Hillary Fratzke, Towson

Fratzke was key for the Tigers this week, helping TU notch wins over Loyola and UMBC with seven draw controls in each game. She added eight goals in the week, an assist, a ground ball, and two caused turnovers.

Guinta's debut was successful for the Golden Rams, as the rookie contributed four caused turnovers and six ground balls in a 14-12 WCU victory over Pfeiffer. She added three draw controls as the Golden Rams rallied from a three-goal deficit late in the game.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DIVISION I

Defensive Player of the Week: Karissa Taylor, Maryland

Taylor was a huge part of the Maryland defense as the Terps defeated the Blue Devils on the road. The senior had five ground balls, three caused turnovers, and threw in a pair of draw controls as Maryland limited Duke to 19 shots in the game after the Blue Devils came in averaging 17 goals a game.

Offensive Player of the Week: Brittany Kalkstein, Virginia

Kalkstein led the Cavaliers to the upset of Syracuse with a nine-draw control performance, breaking the ACC career record in the process. She added two goals, two assists, and two ground balls in the victory. Earlier in the week she had six draw controls and two goals and two ground balls in the win over Richmond.

Rookie of the Week: Lily Kalata, Rutgers

Kalata was outstanding in her collegiate debut, collecting 22 saves and allowing just 9 goals in two games. In the opener against Temple, she made 13 saves and allowed just three goals, all in the first half. In the upset of Cornell, the rookie made 10 saves and had four ground balls, while allowing the Big Red just six goals.

DIVISION II -

Defensive Player of the Week: Brigid Milchling, Limestone

Milchling led the Saints to the victory over No. 10 Gannon with a nine-save performance, allowing ony six goals. She added a ground ball in the win.

Offensive Player of the Week: Kimberly Masterton, Mercyhurst

Masterton led the Lakers with nine goals and three assists on the week, helping Mercyhurst to a pair of victories. The junior added five ground balls and five caused turnovers to keep the Lakers unbeaten on the season.

Rookie of the Week: Chelsea Treat, Limestone

Treat notched six goals as the Saints defeated No. 10 Gannon 19-6. The rookie added three draw controls in the victory.

DIVISION III -

Defensive Player of the Week: Jessica Chmielewski, Salisbury

Chmielewski helped the Sea Gulls to three wins last week, including a victory over Washington & Lee in which Salisbury allowed only nine shots. The senior had seven caused turnovers and eight ground balls as the Sea Gulls allowed only 33 shots in three games, allowing only 13 goals.

Offensive Player of the Week: Lauren Zegowitz, Stevenson

Zegowitz led the Mustangs to a pair of wins over the week, notching seven goals and three assists while adding seven ground balls and five draw controls.

Rookie of the Week: Abby Fink, Colorado College

Fink opened up her career with a 14-save performance against west-region rival Redlands, helping the Tigers to a 15-7 opening-day victory.

DIVISION I - 

Defensive Player of the Week: Kerry Stoothoof, Loyola

Stoothoof led the Greyhounds to the upset of the Cavaliers, making 15 saves while picking up a ground ball.

Offensive Player of the Week: Christina Dove, Syracuse

Dove powered the Orange to a pair of wins this week, including a victory over  Stanford in which she scored  five goals and picked up six draw controls. In the season-opener against Colgate, the senior notched four goals, added an assist, and controlled four draws.

Rookie of the Week: Emily Garrity, North Carolina

Garrity helped the Tar Heels to a pair of victories on the week, starting with a defeat of Vanderbilt in which she had a hat trick and added two draw controls and two ground balls. In the win over Richmond, she added three draw controls and a caused turnover.
